Wrecked a Bunch of Cars, Had a Good Time
At first we went to the demolition derby to capture just a few shots for a proof of concept video for a feature film we are developing but once we were there with our cameras we were compelled to film more than we has anticipated.
We spend the hours leading up to the derby interviewing drivers, some with years of experience, and others participating for the first time. Fortunately, two of the drivers we spoke with ended up coming out on the top.
We filmed on 16mm, super8 with some of the stock being long-since expired. The result is a gritty, grimy film that matches the feeling of the demolition derby - a 'sport' and a subculture that we find absolutely compelling.
